The idea for developing online training courses came from our staff spending a lot of time in the field listening to the needs of operators, crane owners, and safety managers. Everyone agrees that mandatory certification is a good idea and is long overdue; however if certification is to be mandated, companies need to have access to quality and affordable training. A majority of working operators needed the most prep for the written exam: previously it meant sitting in a classroom for five days, shutting down production, running through concepts and regulations too quickly, and all at a cost of several thousand dollars.
Online training would allow operators to learn at their own pace and at times convenient to them, receive comprehensive training that has been audited by independent subject matter experts to ensure quality and adherence to industry standards, spend as much or as little time as they need on topics based on individual skill levels, and help cut training costs virtually in half.
